3-D scanning

Background

3-D scanning is the process of creating a virtual version of a real world thing: bits from atoms. There are a number of different technologies for making 3-D scans which can be separated into contact and non-contact typologies. Contact 3-D scanners touch the surface it is digitizing across a number of points. Non-contact use light techniques or lasers.
